A unique case of Parkinson’s, dementia, and psychosis.

We need your help to provide care for a woman that went from being an active senior to bed-ridden in 90 days and hospitalized for 60 without a definitive diagnosis as her condition and deterioration has surprised everybody, specially me, her son.

Meet Iris. She is 74 years old. She has been hospitalized since early September, 2024 in downtown Fort Worth TX.

My name is FG, I am Iris’s only son and family she has left.

I created this site and GoFundMe fundraising to help her with the mounting medical bills, medication cost, and total care services she now needs.

This is the first time I have asked for help this way. My current situation, result of a series of events so implausible it borders on the absurd, has placed me in hardship beyond my means to provide for her.

She does not have health insurance or qualify qualify for any social, federal, or local medical program. The hospital has implied that unless I find a suitable location for her to be discharged, she will be placed in a homeless shelter. Her only option is private care, which I cannot afford right now.

This is why we need your help.

Prognosis

Iris is unable to walk and slowly was able to recover some use of her arms to feed herself. She needs total care by a health professional as her condition is likely to continue deteriorating.

My goal is to rise enough money to pay for the monthly cost of caring for Iris at a group home and pay for her medications.

The hospital’s case management has calculated that I will need between $1,200 and $1,600 a month for her total care plus $400 in medications. They gave us until the end of November, 2024 to find her care, or they will legally force discharge.
